School in Colonia Tikal celebrates receiving 400 books in Spanish from SewHope

Led by Sr. Pam Buganski, SewHope is sending hundreds of books ech year to several schools in the communities we are working in.  The books are specifically chosen to help the children develop a great love for reading and to  not only further their education, but to develop their character. When the books were first distributed, the school had a beautiful worship service to give thanks for the books.  We have currently started a program where children can borrow the books to take home and then they receive "rewards" for reading to their younger siblings.

Children delight in seeing new books arriving!

                                                      Picture
One of our greatest joys is seeing the incredible enthusiasm from the children as we bring books to their community.  They fight to demonstrate to us their reading skills and they eagerly listen as the older children read to the younger ones.

                                                      First books for Pueblo Nuevo!

                                                      Picture
We were moved by watching even the teen girls eagerly read.  In this community, there were previously no books for reading! The school director is now working with us to develop a lending library program so that the books will be properly cared for and used for their intended benefit.
