In the book of Matthew Jesus says "Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink. I was a stranger and you invited me in. I needed clothes and you clothed me. I was sick and you looked after me."
See below our list of gifts that you can send to family and friends this Christmas.  Just fill out the contact form below. Help a family grow a vegetable garden
Families with limited diets, primarily beans and corn, are now benefiting from large fruit and vegetable gardens they have planted in their own backyards!  SewHope has provided seeds, education, and encouragement, but the families have done all the work!  They are now realizing the great benefits of improved nutrition as well as the pride that comes from a bountiful harvest.

                                                      Support our child health program!
Every 6 months, the children in our program receive deworming medicine and fluoride varnish on their teeth.  They also receive a vitamin every day.  We monitor their growth, test them for anemia, and review their vaccinations.  We work with the health ministry of the Peten to ensure that each child receives the vaccines they need and are entitled to.  Help us expand this program to reach all children throughout the Peten.

Feed one child for a year
Through our Kids Against Hunger program, you can provide a starving child with nutritionally complete meals for a year.  The meals are pre-packaged by churches, organizations, and other groups in the Toledo area and sent to Guatemala.  The program helps to meet critical food shortages that occur in times of drought and disaster.  In addition, the program has enabled us to reach the poorest of the poor and to develop trust and long-term solutions to their nutritional and health needs.

Provide a family with a composting latrine
The lack of clean water and sanitation facilities (latrines, toilets) is one of the greatest causes of sickness and death in developing countries, yet also one of the simplest and least expensive problems to fix!  SewHope is helping families build simple composting latrines and hand-washing stations to help prevent some of the most common diseases in developing countries such as diarrhea, cholera, and intestinal worms.  Please help us in our efforts to put a composting latrine in every home!

                                                      Reduce death from Cervical Cancer
Cervical Cancer is the leading cause of cancer death among women in Guatemala.  Tragically, it is one one the easiest cancers to treat if detected early.  SewHope has been leading the way in preventing this deadly disease in the villages we serve. Over 1000 women were screened by Pap tests this year alone and treatment was given to those with precancerous conditions.  SewHope was also able to bring one young mother to the U.S. for life-saving radiation and chemotherapy.  Please consider helping us expand our cervical cancer prevention program to reach all women of the Peten so no one has to die an early death from this preventable disease.

Provide a child with a high school education
Without at least a high school education, young people cannot obtain a job that will allow them to leave the cycle of poverty.   The girls in our villages see no chance for this so they often become pregnant at extremely young ages.  These remote villages are unable to provide education beyond the primary level.  We have now developed a program where the children can be transported to a high school each day.  For $500, you can provide a young teen with a year of high school education including uniforms, books and computer access!

Due to the great success of our temporary clinic in Pueblo Nuevo, the villagers are working with us to build a clinic of their own!  They have donated community land and will be working with us on the construction.  We need $30,000 for materials and equipment to get the clinic completed this year.  Please consider supporting this critical need.

Build a computer lab in a school!
SewHope has partnered with FUNSEPA in Guatemala to provide a full computer lab to schools in Guatemala. 16 computers will be provided to each school and full training will be provided to the teachers.  We believe this is a critical way to bring the Guatemalan students to a competitive level in our world
