Meet Genesis. Her mother visited the clinic looking for help for her charming and delightful six year old daughter. Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a genetic bone disorder characterized by fragile bones that break easily. It is also known as "brittle bone disease."
It amazes me that we seem to always have what is necessary in our tiny clinic storeroom. Ismael is making it his task to fix up this device for Genesis who is unable to walk because of multiple past and current fractures, as well as a very tiny and misshapen body.
As Genesis' mother is able to read, Dr. Anne gave her some material written in Spanish about the disease and discussed it with her. Genesis is contributing to the conversation about her while coloring. We also sent this school deskchair home with Genesis and her mother as it seemed to fit her perfectly.
Dr. Anne will make more connections in Toledo to see how Genesis might be assisted with her disability. One thing is for sure, nothing keeps her from smiling!
