Meet Berta. She is posing here with Tracy, a medical student. Berta appeared at the clinic in Santa Ana two days ago. She came with foot problems. Because Berta has diabetes, she has nerve loss in her foot. If she hadn't come to the clinic, who knows what would have happened to her foot.
Tracy has re-dressed Berta's foot five times in 3 days. This is the wound before the third wrapping; I am told that it is in much better condition on this the second day. I watched as Tracy stuffed at least 18 inches of anti-bacterial treated gauze into the hole in her foot. I really could not believe what I was seeing.
Tracy will continue to work with Berta twice a day until the team leaves in two days. At that time, a plan of action will be discussed with Berta. As God would provide, Dr. Lane, a podiatrist from Toledo will be coming with a new team on December 2. Tracy has been consulting with him in the meantime.
