                                                      Who we are

After years of leading short term mission trips to Guatemala, Randy and Anne Ruch became increasingly frustrated with the lack of real change possible with this approach.  They had the good fortune of finding a group of dedicated Christians who worked with them to found SewHope in 2007 with the goal of finding long-term solutions to address the many needs resulting from extreme poverty and injustice.  While we are often asked "Why Guatemala and why Peten?", we can only answer that this is where God has led us.  Mother Teresa once said that God does not ask us to be successful. He only asks us to be faithful.  All of the people involved with our organization are committed to merely following God's call to love and minister to those He places in our path.

It is hard to find the words to explain the goodness of our God in sending Ismael and Orfelinda to be our project directors in Guatemala. They exemplify everything that SewHope stands for. Coming from the poorest of the poor in Guatemala and yet, overcoming those obstacles by their own self-sacrifice and hard work, they have committed their lives to ending the injustices that our world suffers from. While working endless hours with us, they also raise 3 boys. Their hope is that their boys will become educated and have the opportunities to make real differences in this world as they too follow the Lord.
