PUBLIC HEALTH AND AGRICULTURE PROGRAMS
Equipping communities with the tools and knowledge they need to build a sustainable future and end the cycle of poverty is the ultimate goal of SewHope's public health and agricultural programs. SewHope students are given the opportunity to learn, hands-on, about raising chickens and growing and harvesting food.
Chispa StovesWe work with families to install safe, high efficiency, low emissions stoves with chimneys that decrease indoor air pollution and decrease fuel costs, labor, and deforestation. By the end of 2022, nearly 50 families will have these safe stoves installed in their homes.

Eco FiltersOne of the best ways to improve health is to have a reliable source of clean water for drinking and sanitation. We help meet that need by providing simple ceramic and microfiber water filters to individual families. In the last two years, 38 water filters have helped provide families with purified water.

Chicken RaisingIn addition to the chickens SewHope raises on campus, many are raised by mothers of the children in our education program. Our staff guides them in how to care for the chickens with the goal to be able to raise poultry, on their own, long term and provide for their families. Over 350 chickens have been raised to help families earn an income.
|
Tilapia FarmingTilapia is an extremely popular, highly nutritious protein source used in school snacks that also helps provide supplemental income for SewHope's other agricultural projects. Every year, 1000 tilapia are raised and the program continues to grow.
|
At-Home InitiativesSewHope staff work with families to develop vegetable gardens (cilantro, onions, radishes, tomatoes, peppers, etc.) and raise poultry for meat and eggs at their homes.
|
Vertical GardensA new project that will soon help community members build their own gardens and provide their families with fresh fruits and vegetables while using minimal space and resources
