SewHope's Mother's Cooperative Groups Make Huge Strides in 2024 |
SewHope's two Mother's Cooperative Groups, which began in early 2024, have held 26 meetings as of early October. 20+ mothers of SewHope students work with Carmen, SewHope's Director of Community Development, to implement various projects that help bring in money for their families. Members are also able to borrow money from the group's savings. During the second half of the year, 21 loans were taken out to cover health and sales needs, which has supported 9 members of the group! All those who have taken loans have paid their capital and interest when due! Their projects continue to generate profits and increase their savings. The women keep track of all savings, loans and cash balances. This project was initiated by Carmen, and the rapid success is inspiring! These women have incredible determination to better the lives of their families, and we are blessed to play a part in this.

What's New: SewHope School is Growing!

New 5th Grade Classroom is Under Construction!
What began as an after-school reinforcement program on a front porch in 2007 is now an accredited, independent Guatemalan primary school. 125 students, in grades K-4, are being taught a full Guatemalan curriculum by some of the most qualified teachers in Peten. Our students' learning is enhanced with access to personalized, online programs such as Khan Academy and Raz Kids, small group lessons, hands-on agriculture projects on SewHope's property and the opportunity to learn from local professionals about career paths. In 2025 we will add 5th grade, providing another 20 students the opportunity to receive a quality education, free of charge. |
