SewHope's accredited Independent School provides a high-quality education to the children of Santa Ana, Petén, Guatemala.
ACADEMIC PROGRAM ASPECTS
SewHope's faith-based Independent School employs certified Guatemalan teachers, and offers a full curriculum to students in grades K-6. SewHope students attend a full day of classes, as opposed to Guatemalan public school students who attend only half days.

Direct InstructionSewHope's full time, certified Guatemalan teachers use direct instruction, small group work, games, crafts, and more to engage all types of learners. 
Hands-On LessonsTaking advantage of our beautiful campus, students are taught how to grow and harvest crops and raise chickens. Students' families are invited to take part in at-home projects, which focus on gardening, clean burning stoves, clean water, and raising chickens.

Online CurriculumNot all students fit into a distinct grade level. SewHope employs cutting-edge online curriculums such as Khan Academy and Raz-Kids, which adapts to an individual student's needs. 
Penpal ProgramSewHope students participate in a PenPal Program with Maumee Valley Country Day students in Toledo, Ohio. There are many aspects of life that transcend linguistic, socioeconomic and cultural differences, such as friendship, family and fun. Through games, drawings, letters and Zoom calls, students form connections with their peers in the United States. 
Guest Lecturers Local professionals are invited to share their expertise with students. Guest lecturers provide interactive lessons, real-world insights, and exposure to diverse careers and life skills, inspiring students to dream bigger and connect classroom learning to future opportunities. |
Program Timeline
SewHope’s education program began in 2008 by supporting students in local classrooms. In 2011, tutoring sessions started on the front porch of our rented clinic and soon grew into after-school reinforcement classes, giving children additional academic support and opportunity.
As the needs of the community grew, so did the program! In 2022, the first classrooms were built, more students enrolled in our accredited elementary school, and what began as a small initiative has now come full circle with a growing campus filled with students learning and dreaming for the future.
In early 2026, SewHope reached another exciting milestone with the completion of two additional classrooms, giving every grade its own dedicated learning space. What began as a small educational initiative has grown into a vibrant elementary school where students are learning, building confidence, and preparing for brighter futures.
