SewHope helps families experience healthier and safer lives through homes and lifestyles improvements |
Our Public Health Programs continue to grow and evolve, and impact the lives of those in Peten. Hear from Randy Ruch how SewHope is helping Guatemalans obtain the tools they need to be able to self-determine their future.
Clean Stove ProjectAs you think about having a campfire this summer, think about what it would be like to have the campfire IN YOUR HOME!
This is the reality for families in rural Guatemala. Yes, as smoke fills the air, eyes burn, skin itches, children are burned...and over time, cancer develops, children die of respiratory disease and unborn babies become growth stunted. We work with families to install safe, high efficiency, low emissions stoves with chimneys that decrease indoor air pollution and decrease fuel costs, labor, and deforestation. |
Clean Water ProjectOne of the best ways to improve health is to have a reliable source of clean water for drinking and sanitation. We help meet that need by providing simple ceramic and microfiber water filters to help families, teaching children the importance of clean water and hand-washing, and setting up "tippy-tap" hand washing stations outside latrines.
We also partner with Clean Water for the World to install large-scale, high volume ultraviolet water filters that can provide clean water for an entire community. |
Chicken Project
Our chicken project has continued to grow over the past several years. During our 2021 LEAP fundraiser, our generous supporters purchased over 200 chickens for families. It costs $5 to raise a chicken to full size, and once fully grown, they can be sold for $20 each. Many chickens are raised by mothers of the children in our education program. They are taught how to do this, and the goal is for them to be able to raise chickens long term, and provide for their families.
For $5, $10 or $25 a month, you could bring chicken and eggs to a family who otherwise would eat only tortillas and beans. Donate below if you would like to be able to participate in this program! |

Public Health PackageSewHope offers local families a "public health package" that will dramatically improve their health. The package costs about $200 and we ask the families to contribute 20% of the cost so that they are also investing in their family's health. The package includes:
