Happy Trails

​It’s the evening before I leave and Anne and I are chilling in a hotel room in Mackinaw City. We’ll get dinner soon and then watch the Memorial Day fireworks show over the lake. What a great way to spend the last night with Anne. We’ve had a great few days up here first in Traverse City where she ran the Bayshore Marathon on Saturday and then today taking the slow roads along the Lake Michigan coast exploring towns and beaches. The weather has been spectacular.

I’m still a small bundle of nerves though. So many details and worries that keep running through my brain. The biggest worry is my knee. Will it fail me now even though we’ve been friends for 66 years? We’ll see.
But the bright side is that no matter what happens, I’m very, very lucky to be doing this. I’m still healthy despite the knee. I have the free time and financial 

ability to get away for a month and buy expensive ultralight gear. And most importantly, I have a great, supportive wife. So I’m not gonna complain. I’ve been blessed.

And I’m also thankful to you for reading this and hopefully my future posts. But especially I’m grateful to you for supporting our work at SewHope. Tomorrow morning when I head out, I’ll be thinking about all of you and the people SewHope has been able to help (and will help) in Guatemala.
